A marvel on canvas, this Pattachitra Paintings ( Traditional Handicraft Paintings of Orissa ) executed by the chitrakaar of Orissa is a pictorial wonder based on Lord Krishna dancing over the head of Kaliya Naag- a serpent as the pivotol theme. Portraying different incidents or stories from the myths / epics or Lord Krishna, the intricate geometric patterns and borders speak volumes of the skills of the artist. 8 Ganesha in different mood and postures are depicted on the two sides of the painting.
The 'pattachitra' resemble the old murals of Odisha especially religious centres of Puri, Konark and Bhubaneshwar region, dating back to the 5th century BC. It is a painting done on canvas, and is manifested by rich colourful application, creative motifs and designs, and portrayal of simple themes, mostly mythological in depiction.
