These V Crochet bags are skilfully crocheted using the banana tree fibres, by our women artisans from the villages, who use their traditional methods of styling them in a manner, passed down over generations by their ancestors. Taping a patti to these bags holds the fibres sturdy and strong, making them last for a long period. These eco friendly crochets can be exchanged for our paper lunch bags, or can be used to store nice little money purses along with our mobile gadgets, or they simply make a great accessory to be taken along for any occasion, complimenting any attire. Each V crochet bag, is the epitome of rustic chic.
The artisans of Mayasandra in Karnataka produce a range products made of Banana fibre using traditional skills and practices, inherited through the generations.
Banana Fiber is extracted from Banana tree bark after harvesting the crop. The sun-dried banana fibre is procured from the fields early in the morning by women in the household. The collected fibre is washed in water to clear impurities and mud before starting twine making process. First, Banana fibre is peeled and sliced into the required sizes. Then two peeled strands of half inch in width are manually twisted together to make banana rope. The rope is further used to make banana bags and other various products. The artisans make the banana yarn by twisting the peeled Banana strands manually.
