Gond Painting of Madhya Pradesh

Rs. 2,300.00

This black and white painting highlights the fear these predators generate. Fine lines, dashes and dots in a various shades and patterns are used in this painting.

The Gonds are among the largest tribes in Central India. Though predominantly centered in Madhya Pradesh, they are present in significant numbers in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. They paint their walls with vibrant depictions of local flora, fauna and gods. The figures are filled up with intricate lines and dots in this painting. Each artist has his or her own unique patterns or way of detailing - fish scales and drops of water, a line of creeping  spiders, the mark of a plough on a field, the crescent moon, young shoots in a paddy field. That pattern becomes their signature and reveals the Gonds’ continuing bond with nature, a reflection of their culture where life and spirituality are inseparable from the forest and its inhabitants.

This painting is the original work of renowned Gond artist, Ramesh Tekam. It is done on paper base made using acrylic and permanent ink. The painting is signed by the artist. Through his work he wants to bring to the forefront the plight of the tiger and the diminishing numbers in our forests.
