Deer - Pattachitra on Silk
Pattachitra Painting of Odisha

Rs. 1,960.00

This Pattachitra - Orissa folk art painting on Tussar Silk cloth depicting deer in different postures in their natural habitat and the elements of nature. This painting is a visual treat, as it employs natural colors and silk canvas to paint on.The detailed work done in the painting and the vegetable colours applied to this painting, provides an elegance to any wall.

Tussar Silk cloth is used as a base for the painting .The handloom Tussar cloth is pasted tightly on a ply with hand-made gum, and is polished by rubbing with hand for the painting base. Silk painting is almost the opposite of other types of painting. Generally, the artist paints by controlling the placement of pigment on a surface, usually through the use of brushes. In silk painting, the painter controls the movement of pigment within boundaries such as a resist on the silk. Brushes become much less important because the dye will move on the silk after it is placed there. Because the dyes flow so freely on silk, the job of the silk painter is to control the movement of the pigment on the silk rather than its placement. The final step is giving a protective coating. The cloth is given a lacquer coating to protect from the effects of nature and give a glazed varnished look.

The painting is done by Praksash Kumar Maharana, a veteran Pattachitra artist of Odisha State.
