MAKE AND TAKE HOME TWO POTTERY PIECES.

Longpii pottery originates from the tribes of the Ukhrul district of Manipur, India. Master Artisan Wungshungmi Shangrei, who belongs to the village of Longpii, Manipur will conduct the workshop. Each participant will be provided raw materials required for making one small square cup and one cup (done by artist) to do cane piping on-spot. So each participant can take back two cups at the end of workshop. All the pottery is moulded by hand, no potters wheels is used. This pottery can be used directly on fire and is micro-wave safe. The workshop will be followed by a display cum sale. All art material will be provided. 

This workshop will be a platform where you can bring out your hidden facets on a tactile form as creative expression. Participants can watch and interact with the Longpii artists – the traditional practitioners of Longpii black pottery.

ABOUT ARTIST WUNGSHUNGMI SHANGREI 
Wungshungmi Shangrei (43 yrs) belongs to the Tangkhul Naga tribe of the village of Longpii in Manipur. WungShungmi himself learnt the craft of Longpi Hamlei from his father at the early age of 17 and had seen it made by his parents since he was a little boy. 
He first participated in an exhibition held in Silchar, Assam. Later in order to avoid breakage/damage of Longii Pottery items during transportation/handling and also for better marketing opportunities, he shifted his base from Manipur to Delhi 11 years ago. He associated himself with TRIFED - The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited , who was supplying Longpii Stone Pottery items like bowls, cooking vessels, traditional utility items etc. for sale through Tribes India Outlet in New Delhi. Besides, supplying items to TRIFED, the artisan has started selling pottery items of his own to customers by participating in exhibitions in major cities of our country since the last few years. He participated in Kalagram Chandigarh National Craft Mela 2016 - organized by North Zone Cultural Center, Government of India, Dastkari Haat Craft Bazaar at Dilli Haat etc.
