This Gond painting portrays a rooster. Fine lines, dashes and dots in a various shades and patterns are used in this painting. The art is in black and white as well as colored variety. The main body of the rooster is in black and white where as the outer parts of the body are multi-colored.

The Gonds are among the largest tribes in Central India. Though predominantly centered in Madhya Pradesh, they are present in significant numbers in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. They paint their walls with vibrant depictions of local flora, fauna and gods. The figures are filled up with intricate lines and dots in this painting. Each artist has his or her own unique patterns or way of detailing - fish scales and drops of water, a line of creeping spiders, the mark of a plough on a field, the crescent moon, young shoots in a paddy field. That pattern becomes their signature and reveals the Gonds’ continuing bond with nature, a reflection of their culture where life and spirituality are inseparable from the forest and its inhabitants.

This painting is the original work of renowned Gond artist, Ramesh Tekam. It is done on paper base made using acrylic and permanent ink.
